Patton Oswalt

Okay, so Patton Oswalt, a generation younger than me, is one of the funniest comedians around. I am so glad he was not my son because I would have been forced to put him in a closet for time outs most of his young life.

Now in this gig, he is musing about his illustrious career in those idiotic sitcoms and also his career involving voice overs for animated movies.

Whatever you do, skip this link unless you are really into pornographic comedy.

What the commercial people wished Patton to do was to translate sick and depraved jokes and lines into pg rated dialogue that would pass FCC muster.

Which is funny by itself since the FCC lets Glenn Beck get away with murder, and I mean murder, on the tellie every goddamn day.

While Patton is relaying his experiences as a translator he demonstrates how the pg rated lines are worse than the pornographic lines. And every time he translates a line for his audience, he ends it with a song:

I do not think this is Patton’s best work but the gig does give one pause to consider the politics of the tellie as well as some insight into our own hypocrisy.

I just love Whackity Schmackity dooooo, though. And it comes to mind every damn day I read the net.

For instance:

Amidst the political upheaval in Egypt, conservatives are scare-mongering about the possible Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt. But leading neoconservative Frank Gaffney is taking Muslim Brotherhood fearmongering to new heights. This past weekend, Gaffney was a featured speaker at the Educational Policy Conference in St. Louis, an annual gathering of social conservatives. Gaffney used the opportunity to discuss how the Muslim Brotherhood is not only poised to implement a new theocracy in Egypt, but is also operating in the United States under “front groups” like the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil liberties group dedicated to “protecting the rights of all Americans, regardless of faith.”

After his speech, ThinkProgress caught up with Gaffney to probe his conspiracy further. Echoing the McCarthyist anti-communist rhetoric of the 1950s, Gaffney told us that there were already people in the federal government doing the bidding of “stealth jihadists.” When we asked Gaffney to name names, he pointed to President Obama’s chief counterterrorism advisor John Brennan, Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano:

TP: Do you think [Sharia law] has already infiltrated the federal government?

GAFFNEY: There are questionable people who are sympathetic to the program of the stealth jihadists who have influence with the United States government. Some I think are actually working for it, but for sure people who are persuaded that the folks that they need to work with to reach out to the Muslim-American community, for example, who incessantly turn to Muslim Brotherhood organizations for that purpose, are a very real problem.

Store food and prepare for the coming global insurrection: That’s the warning Glenn Beck issued Tuesday. The Muslim Brotherhood and American radicals, he informed us, are operating in tandem to bring about “the destruction of the Western world.” On his Fox show, Beck presented a clip of Mohamed ElBaradei calling for a “New Egypt that is democratic, that is based on social justice.” The phrase “social justice” flashed on the screen, because in Beck’s world, it’s a code word for a totalitarian leftist agenda, just as the Egyptian protesters’ use of the phrase “day of rage” signals their kinship with Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground. “We’ve shown you tonight that Hamas, Code Pink”—the feminist anti-war group—”and the Muslim Brotherhood are all linked together.” With the future bleak, Beck called on his viewers to pray for “our way of life” and for Israel

Okay, so beckerhead has tied all the activity in Egypt and Tunisia and Libya to our Holy Scriptures.

Isn’t that just ducky?

Oh and for those who feel that the Huckster from Arkansas (by the way if Arkansas is really Arkansaw, why is not Kansas Kansaw?) and Fox is just another ‘moderate’ look at this:

Not surprisingly, the politicians closest to the religious right have been the quickest to side with Mubarak. On Turesday Mike Huckabee, who is in Israel, called into Fox & Friends to criticize the Obama administration for failing to back an ally. In Israel, he said, there’s “real shock and surprise… at how quickly the Obama administration abandoned a 30-year ally and a longstanding friend to peace and stability President Mubarak.” On Sean Hannity’s radio show, Newt Gingrich warned that Egypt “could go the way of Iran.” Ibid.

But think about what this preacher, governor and pundit is doing!

Jerusalem is the line in the sand for the Jewish State,” said former Israeli ambassador Yoram Ettinger. “If Jews are not allowed to build in Jerusalem then what are we doing in this area. This is our heart and nobody, absolutely nobody has the moral or strategic right to question our right to build anywhere at any time in Jerusalem.”

Huckabee challenged,  “How would the government of the United States feel if (Israeli) Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu began to dictate which people could live in the Bronx, which ones could live in Manhattan, which ones could live in Queens and so you know we only allow certain people to live in these neighborhoods. How would that go over? It wouldn’t go over very well.”

The hotel was once owned by the former Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseni. Husseni worked with Hitler during World War II to exterminate the Jews of Europe and prevent their immigration to Israel.

“Jewish construction on this ground doesn’t just celebrate the right of Jews in Jerusalem – the heart of the Jewish people – but also it’s a late achievement or late symbol of victory over the Nazis,” Ettinger said.

This moderate is calling for the end of Palestinian ‘occupation’. It is bad enough that he is saying that the Palestinians must leave their homeland and somehow be transferred to tents in surrounding deserts of other nations, he ties this proposed mass exodus to the NAZIS.

But you must see what is really going on here.

Like beckerhead, this moron is tying everything to the END OF DAYS.

I mean these jackasses are waiting for the end of the world via Revelations. It is like that prick in the Reagan Administration who as head of the Department of Interior would pray every morning for the end of the goddamn world. http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/quotes/scar_u.htm

  1. We’re a nation of busy bodies Dick. I wish we’d quit sticking our noses in the affairs of other nations and let them take care of their own business and that we’d pay more attention to ours. All we’ve managed to do lately is make a mess of things. Our lawmakers haven’t a clue of what they’re doing. The proof is in the pudding.

    1. It is always up to US. Why?

I hate to sound like Ron Paul, but fuck this.

We do not own the world.

Many corporations that do biz with us and through US own the world. ha

      1. Your comment is spot on. U.S. corps have a great deal to do with this. Without question they leverage their U.S. identities to gain an advantage in global commerce and typically don’t much care what the side effects are in host nations. Our government is at least as culpable in this because Washington doesn’t pay a whole lot of attention to what kinds of shenanigans the corps do on foreign soil. It’s a dam free for all mostly.
